A Longer Rope and a Stronger Camel

By David J. Stewart

So oftentimes we've heard people make the statement:

"I'm at the end of my rope"

Well I say to you... GET A LONGER ROPE!

Another popular saying is:

"That's the straw that breaks the camel's back."

Well... GET A STRONGER CAMEL!

It is quite normal for all of us to make these type statements, when life's problems pile upon us like a tackling football team. Yet, we must keep such Scriptures in mind. 1st Corinthians 10:13, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." You can make it!

It's important for us to keep in mind when everything seems to be going wrong that there are many people in this world suffering through worse things. Nearly half the world's population lives on less than $2 a day. Can you imagine that? I suffer continually from herniated disks in my lower neck. The agonizing toothache-like pain never goes away, even with the Percodan 10-325 pain killers my doctor prescribed to me. It is an ineffable burden for me. I eagerly await the Lord's return at the Rapture or when the Lord decides to call me home, that I may be relieved of this constant pain. Yet, I know God has a purpose for my life and He is using me to help others.

I actually heard the statements about "getting a longer rope and a stronger camel" from a sermon years ago, preached by Pastor Jack Hyles at the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana where I was a faithful member for 8 years. I do not recall if it was a Sunday morning or a Sunday night, but Dr. Hyles' words have helped me often through my pain. For when I often find myself saying, "I'm at the end of my rope," I hear Brother Hyles' comforting words echo back in my mind... GET A LONGER ROPE! You can make it! Hang in there!

No One Knows Your Pain

Ye Must Be Born Again!
